The area of Shanghai totals 6, 340 square kilometers with its longest part extending some 120 kilometers from north to south and the widesl part 100 kilometers from east to west, of which the city districts occupy 750 square kilometers. Shanghai, as one of the four municipalities under the direcl jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China, has now under its administration 18 municipal administrative districts and 1 county. The 8 districts are: Huangpu, Nanhui, Luwan, Changning, Jing'an, habei, Putuo, Xuhui, Hongkou, ~angpu, Minhang, Baoshan, iading, Fengxian, Songjiang, Jinshan, Qingpu and Pudong Newly eveloped District. One county is Chongming.
