| When is the Nanhui Peach Blossom Festival held? And what are its main acfivlties? |
An old saying goes: "Peach presents so seductive a charm with its brilliant flowers." Every 3rd lunar month sees the Nanhui County of Shanghai clad in red peach blossoms and green willows as well as the yellow colza flowers, presenting ever such a beautiful scene. This, together with the simple customs and unsophisticated feelings of the local people, has attracted a lot of visitors domestic and foreign to con, e and join them for fun. And as time went by it has come to be the Nanhui Peach Blossom Festival, known far and near in China and in the world.
During the festival days (around mid-April) , some 10-thousand-mu of peach trees in and around the town of Nanhui vie with one another in bloom. And this is set off with other exhibitions as "Display of Lanterns in Ancient Bell Park," "Peach Garden Wonderland" and "Folk Customs Exhibition in the North of the Town" and so on, thereby combining in an organic way the sightseeing with folk customs and activities. And in this way visitors can not only fully appreciate the beauty of nature, pastoral tastes in the countryside and the rich feelings of the local people in the vicinity of Shanghai but also can have a taste of local dishes or take a part in other such activities as peddling the waterwheel and driving a buffalo to plow the land and so on. All these activities have now become part of the serial activities of the International Art Festival in Shanghai. |
