 |
Shanghai is a piece of land in the alluvial plain of the Yangtze River Delta with soft soil and a flat land of an average four meters above sea level. Zhejiang Province.
The second special feature of its terrain is that Shanghai is situated at the eastern rim of a plate-shaped lowland centering round Lake Tai with a declination from the east to the west. The highest part is the seaside plain in the east and the plate-like highland in the middle of four to five meters above sea level while the lowest part is the Dianmao lowland in the west of the city with an average height of only two to three meters, the relatively higher part being the Chongming Island at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the north of the city. The terrain of Shanghai, so to speak, looks llke a semi-plate with a declination fronl east to west. |
